Chemical Name: Sodium hexametaphosphate
Molecular Formula:(NaPO3)n
CAS No.: 10124-56-8
Properties
Sodium hexametaphosphate is a type of sodium phosphate polymer, appearing as transparent glassy flakes or a white powdery paste. It exhibits strong hygroscopicity, becoming sticky upon moisture absorption and is deliquescent in air. It is readily soluble in water with high solubility, though its dissolution rate is relatively slow; its aqueous solution shows an acidic reaction. It readily hydrolyzes into phosphite salts. It has the ability to form soluble complexes with certain metal ions (such as calcium, magnesium), making it useful for water softening; it can also form complexes with salts of lead, silver, barium, etc.
